Comfort height toilet

A comfort height toilet, sometimes called a right height or chair height toilet, has a seat that sits between about 17 and 19 inches off the floor, compared to a standard toilet at around 15 inches. That two to four inch difference closer matches the height of a typical dining chair.

For a tall person, a standard height toilet forces the knees up higher than the hips when sitting, which is a small but repeated discomfort over the course of daily use. Comfort height models let the knees sit closer to a right angle, similar to sitting in a normal chair, which most tall users find noticeably more comfortable.

When shopping or renovating, comfort height is usually listed directly on the product page or spec sheet, so it is worth checking rather than assuming a taller-looking toilet automatically qualifies. Raised toilet seats are a lower-cost alternative that add height to an existing standard toilet without replacing the whole fixture, though they typically add less clearance than a true comfort height model.
