Torso length

The vertical measurement from shoulder to hip or crotch, which determines whether jumpsuits, leggings and bodysuits sit correctly instead of pulling tight or riding up.

Torso length is the vertical measurement of the body from the shoulder down to the hip or crotch, and it is a separate number from overall height or inseam. Two people of the same height can have very different torso lengths, which is why generic tall sizing does not always fix every fit problem on its own.

For one-piece garments like jumpsuits and bodysuits, and for high-rise leggings, a long torso relative to the garment's design means the waistband sits too low, the crotch seam pulls, or the shoulders strain, even when the leg length is correct. This is a common reason tall women in particular describe jumpsuits as either too short in the body or oddly proportioned through the leg.

Brands that account for torso length usually mention it directly in tall-specific product descriptions, or offer a separate long-torso or tall-body cut. When shopping for jumpsuits, leggings, or maxi dresses, checking reviews from other tall buyers for comments about the rise and torso fit is often more useful than the size chart alone, since torso proportions vary more than height-based charts can capture.
