Yoke length

The yoke is the panel of fabric across the upper back and shoulders of a dress shirt, running from one shoulder seam to the other, and yoke length refers to how wide that panel is. It is a less obvious measurement than sleeve length or body length, but it directly affects where the shoulder seam sits.

On a tall frame with broader or simply longer shoulders, a standard yoke can place the shoulder seam too far in toward the neck, which pulls the whole sleeve attachment point out of position and makes the sleeve feel short even if the sleeve fabric itself is long enough. This is a common reason a shirt can measure correctly on paper but still feel off.

Shirts built specifically for tall sizing usually widen the yoke along with the sleeve and body length, rather than just adding length to the sleeve alone. When a dress shirt consistently feels tight across the shoulders despite a correct neck and sleeve size, yoke width, not sleeve length, is often the actual cause worth checking first.
